Grande Prairie Regional College

Addition Completion: 1990
Renovations: Ongoing
Size: ± 25,000 sq.m.
Location: Grande Prairie, Alberta

This phase II expansion developed 270,000 ft² of new space to the existing College as well as renovations and modernizations to the original building designed by Douglas Cardinal. The sinuous design and expansive brickwork of the College has long been a Grande Prairie landmark so careful attention was made to blend the new design into Cardinals original conception. A new gymnasium, cafeteria, courtyard and student lounge were major features of the expansion along with new laboratories, classrooms and shop areas. The campus was designed with a central core of service areas to encourage interaction and foster a diverse learning environment.

Many innovative methods of heating/cooling and modernizing the existing facility were utilized on this project including upgrading the existing building envelope to reduce energy consumption. A saline solution heat sink system utilizes off-peak utility hours to store energy resulting in significant utility savings.

Since the addition to the main building, our firm is proud to have worked on over 150 smaller projects for the College including additions, renovations, mechanical upgrades, electrical upgrades, site upgrades, millwork changes, interior fit-outs, roofing repairs, cladding repairs, and everything in between.
