Grande Prairie Provincial Building

Completion: 1982
Size: ± 3,200 sq.m.
Location: Grande Prairie, Alberta

The Grande Prairie Provincial Building and Courthouse is a central piece of architecture unique to the city of Grande Prairie.

The development of both a provincial and judicial building on one site was unique in the Province of Alberta at the time of construction. The design philosophy was to have two complimentary complexes that were separate in function but joined by a covered bridge to allow access to both facilities. Working with each government agency separately in the development of a facility program required skillful coordination.

Constructed adjacent to a historical downtown park area, the complex and landscaping was carefully designed to blend into and engage the natural surroundings.
